Jerry Bird is the President of MassVentures, a state-backed venture capital firm that finances entrepreneurs who face challenges raising capital from traditional venture capital and angel sources. MassVentures just celebrated its 40th anniversary. The organization has invested over $100 million in 150 companies over that time. The fund is an evergreen fund, established with $14 million of state funds. MassVentures also runs a grant program for SBIR / STTR phase II winners to promote commercialization of their innovations.
Jerry’s career has spanned from oil exploration to banking and venture capital. He has experience in multiple industries including energy, finance, software, Internet, healthcare and robotics. He has worked with two person startups and multinational corporations. He has served on the boards of many early-stage technology companies, a public company and several nonprofits.
Jerry enjoys dissecting complex challenges and working with groups to develop aspirational, achievable plans with clear roles, goals and metrics. He has years of experience coaching CEO’s and management teams toward their objectives.
Jerry has rowed in the Head of the Charles Regatta, bicycled up Mount Washington, New Hampshire, and spent hundreds of days on his skis.
