Jeff Edwards is the Executive Director of the Utah Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Initiative (UAMMI), which brings together statewide public, private, community, industry and education partners to assure continued job growth and economic sustainability of some of Utah’s most important manufacturing clusters. Advanced materials are essential in Utah’s aerospace, defense, outdoor products, medical devices, transportation and energy sectors. Utah has more than 12,000 workers in the advanced materials industry working in over 100 companies. Jeff joined UAMMI in 2017.
Jeff has an extensive background in technology and economic development. He joined Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) in 2001 and served as its President & CEO for more than 10 years before his retirement in 2016. During his tenure spanning three governors, Jeff helped EDCUtah to bring into the state more than 80,000 new jobs and nearly $3B in new capital investment. Before joining EDCUtah, he spent the majority of his career in the aerospace and computer industries in both technical and marketing roles.
He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Utah in chemistry and received the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology in 2013. He served as Chairman of the Utah State University Research Foundation which operates the Space Dynamics Laboratory from 2008 to 2016. He also served as Chair of the Utah Science Technology and Research USTAR Advisory Board from 2006 to 2013.
